Evaluation of Hepatoprotective Activity of Adansonia digitata Extract on Acetaminophen‐Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats

Abstract: The methanol extract of the fruit pulp of Adansonia digitata L. (Malvaceae) was examined for its hepatoprotective activity against liver damage induced by acetaminophen in rats. The principle depends on the fact that administration of acetaminophen will be associated with development of oxidative stress. In addition, hepatospecific serum markers will be disturbed. Treatment of the rats with the methanol extract of the fruit pulp of Adansonia digitata L. prior to administration of acetaminophen significantly re… Show more

“…The peroxide products then signal the production and leakage of biomarkers like MDA. interacts with polyunsaturated fatty acids present in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), causing the elevated production of biomarker enzymes such as SGPT, SGOT, ALP, and bilirubin(Hanafy, Aldawsari, Badr, Ibrahim, & Abdel-Hady, 2016). Lipid peroxidation is also a functional parameter of oxidative stress as well as other free radical damage that happens during the biological cascade.…”

“…Consequently, antioxidant efficacy is often cited as a marker of hepatoprotection(Emran et al, 2015;Singhal & Gupta, 2012;Uddin et al, 2019).SGPT, SGOT, and ALP are serum hepatobiliary enzymes present at higher concentrations in the liver. The trichloromethyl peroxyl radical (CCl 3 O 2 • ) directly interacts with polyunsaturated fatty acids present in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), causing the elevated production of biomarker enzymes such as SGPT, SGOT, ALP, and bilirubin(Hanafy, Aldawsari, Badr, Ibrahim, & Abdel-Hady, 2016). Also, these biomarker enzymes are elevated by necrosis or hepatic damage, and they lead to elevated serum concentrations(Zeashan et al, 2008).…”

“…The marked declined in the leakage of liver enzymes into the serum also confirmed the inhibitory effect of a diet containing A. marmelos fruit against LPO. [22][23][24] In contrast, there is a significant increase in SOD, GSH, and CAT levels compared to control group. A variation of these antioxidant defenses clearly contributed to the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity of diet containing A. marmelos fruit.…”

“…Accordingly, there is a mass inhibition of the conjugation reaction and release of unconjugated bilirubin from damaged hepatocytes. [20][21][22] The findings exhibited that the animals treated with diets containing A. marmelos fruit significantly inhibit the generation of ALP, ACP, and bilirubin. Effective control of bilirubin level and alkaline phosphatase activity point toward on early improvement in the secretory mechanism of the hepatic cell.…”

“…The methanol extract of Adansonia digitata L. (Malvaceae), which is a native tree in Central Africa and commonly known as baobab, fruit pulp (the pulp is dissolved in milk or water to be used as a drink or a sauce for food and is considered one of the popular ingredients in ice products) was also found to exert protective effects against ALI (Hanafy et al, 2016). The protection was mediated through attenuating lipid peroxidation by the scavenging activity of free radicals, as well as the antioxidant activities.…”
