Evaluation of Meloidogyne incognita and Rotylenchulus reniformis nematode-resistant cotton cultivars with supplemental Corteva Agriscience nematicides

Abstract: Meloidogyne incognita- and Rotylenchulus reniformis-resistant new cotton cultivars have recently become available, giving growers a new option in nematode management. The objectives of this study were: (i) to determine the yield potential of the new cultivars PHY 360 W3FE (M. incognita-resistant) and PHY 332 W3FE (R. reniformis-resistant) in nematode-infested fields and (ii) to evaluate the effects of combining the nematicides Reklemel (fluazaindolizine), Vydate C-LV (oxamyl), and the seed treatment BIOST Nema… Show more

“…For instance, the repeated use of the same nematicide can lead to selecting a soil microflora that metabolizes these compounds and decreases their persistence (Gowen, 1997). Studies have also recognized that using nematicides enhances the growth and yield of reniform nematode-resistant cotton genotypes (Chinnasri et al, 2003;Schrimsher et al, 2014). Schrimsher et al (2014) observed an increase in plant height and yield across resistant and susceptible breeding lines to reniform nematode when aldicarb was applied.…”

Nematicides have also been beneficial in reducing the reniform nematode population in a continuous cotton system, especially when crop rotation was not economically viable in cotton production in the United States (Lee et al, 2015).…”
