Evaluation of inbreeding and relationship coefficients in Hovawart dogs and analysis of trends in coat colour changes / Ocena stopnia zinbredowania i spokrewnienia psów rasy hovawart oraz analiza tendencji zmian umaszczenia

Abstract: Analyses were conducted on pedigrees of 845 animals registered at the Hovawart Club in Poland (113 dogs and their ancestors). The degree of inbreeding was calculated for the whole population (0.0026) and separately for male dogs (0.0021) and bitches (0.0031), and the coefficient of mean relationship was calculated for the entire population (0.0064), among male dogs (0.0064), among females (0.0073) and between males and females (0.0061). The inbreeding and relationship coefficients obtained are lower than those… Show more

“…(data not shown). Many studies have explored inbreeding in dog breeds, showing different average value of the pedigree coefficient inbreeding both within and amongst breeds, which also varies across countries (Różańska-Zawieja et al 2013). The results presented in this paper suggest that this population of Basset Hound had a good level of genetic variability.…”

“…In some Italian breeds F value ranged from 2.27% in Lagotto Romagnolo (Sabbioni et al 2008), 6.29% in Bracco Italiano dog breed (Cecchi et al 2013) to 10.81% in Bolognese dog breed (Sabbioni et al 2007). On the other hand, values of inbreeding smaller than 1% were reported by Cecchi et al (2009) in an Italian colony of guide dogs (0.45% in German Shepherd dogs, 0.38% in Labrador dogs and 0.49% for Golden Retriever dogs) and by Różańska -Zawieja et al (2013) in the Hovawart dogs (0.26-0.31%).…”
