This study developed a grid-based flood risk map with indices considering the regional characteristics of Daegu City, Ulsan City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Gangwon-do. Indices for mapping flood risk such as flood depth, population density, population ratio vulnerable to disaster, and rainwater storage capacity consist of hazard, exposure, vulnerability, and disaster coping and adaptive capacity. These four indices have a variety of sub-indices. Weights of indices and sub-indices were determined through analytic hierarchy process, and then values for the indices and sub-indices were standardized using z-score method. The flood risk was estimated by performing arithmetic operations on the four indices that were calculated through standardized values of sub-indices using the computed weight. The results show that the central and northern areas of Gangwon-do, namely Wonju City, Hoengseong-gun, Hongcheon-gun, Gangneung City, and so on were classified to be more than "high risk" throughout the area. Jung-gu and Nam-gu of Ulsan City located downtown near Taehwa river, Dalseong-gun and Dalseo-gu of Daegu City located in low-lying area near Nakdong river, and some lowlands near Hyeongsan river of Gyeongju City and Pohang City were determined to have "very high risk." The flood risk map developed in this study is expected to support decision makers in establishing countermeasures to mitigate flood disasters for grid-based small areas.

Food security and climate change are multidimensional issues. Therefore, a lack of knowledge about the most essential variables made these concepts more complex for decision-making and highlighted the need for credible decision support methods. Here, we aim to develop an accurate tool by using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method to explore the priority indicator of food security under climate change in Iran and social network analysis (SNA) to support decisions. The following steps were conducted for the AHP approach: a literature review, a Likert questionnaire and experts’ interviews for variable selection and the variables’ weight determination and prioritization by pairwise comparison questionnaire, designed based on the hierarchy matrix of the criteria and sub-criteria of food security and climate change. The SNA was employed to understand the robustness of the informants’ points of view for indicator selection. After the analysis, 61 criteria were extracted. Sustainability was the important criterion, weighted 0.248. The most important sub-criteria (indicators): groundwater sources, household income, underweight adolescent ratio, food wastage and an annual average of precipitation, weighted 0.095, 0.091, 0.125, 0.227 and 0.236, respectively. The SNA showed that professionals with academic origins focused on the sustainability component. The AHP tool is a credible technique to distinguish the most important criteria. The results might be employed to estimate or predict food security under climate change and simplify decision making in Iran.

Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process-Based Mobile Robot Path Planning

This study presents a path planning method for a mobile robot to be effectively operated through a multi-objective decision-making problem. Specifically, the proposed Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) determines an optimal position as a sub-goal within the multi-objective boundary. The key features of the proposed FAHP are evaluating the candidates according to the fuzzified relative importance among objectives to select an optimal solution. In order to incorporate FAHP into path planning, an AHP framework is defined, which includes the highest level (goal), middle level (objectives), and the lowest level (alternatives). The distance to the target, robot’s rotation, and safety against collision between obstacles are considered as objective functions. Comparative results obtained from the artificial potential field and AHP/FAHP simulations show that FAHP is much preferable for the mobile robot’s path planning than typical AHP.
