In 2021, reporting trends of World Heritage Committee indicate urban development is one of the challenges threatening theintegrity of Egypt's cultural heritage sites (CHS). Urban sprawl (US) is one of the concerns affecting the integrity of Egypt's cultural heritage monuments. The aim of this research is to identify the main driving forces (DFs) in three locations (Giza zone, Sakkara zone and Thebes zone). The amount of US growth was measured and a survey was conducted to identify the main DFs affecting US in the vicinity of CHS in Egypt. Responses were weighted using AHP method to achieve the impact ranking of DFs. To measure the US, three images for each case study were used from Google Earth in 2003-2013-2022. The results showed that from 11 DFs, availability of basic services in the vicinity of US areas has the highest impact ranking DF with 15.85%, while flat land nature, free of topographic variations has the lowest impact factor DF with 0.38%. The amount of growth from 2003-2022 in Giza, Sakkara and Thebes zones was 96.80%, 164.63%, and 81.23%, respectively. This research can be used by decision-makers as a decision support system in managing the development areas in the vicinity of CHS in Egypt.

Intensity analysis has generally been applied as a top-bottom hierarchical accounting method to understand regional dynamic characteristics of land use and land cover (LULC) change. Given the inconvenience of transition level in the detailed and overall presentation of various category transitions at multiple intervals, a novel transition pattern is proposed to represent the transition’s size and intensity and to intuitively identify the stationary mode of transition, which helps the transition level to connect to the mode with the process. An intensity analysis was conducted to communicate the transition between LULC categories in Hengyang from 1980 to 2015. The patch-generating land use simulation (PLUS) model was employed for multi-scenario projection from 2015 to 2045. From 1980 to 2015, 2005 was a significant turning point in the speed of LULC change in Hengyang, and the change rate after this time point was three times that before the time point. The gain of built-up and bare, and the loss of cultivated was always active. The reason for the large loss of forest is that forest comprises the largest proportion of Hengyang. The loss of cultivated and the loss of forest contributing to the built-up’s gain is much larger, but the mechanism behind the transition differed. A stationary targeting transition mode from cultivated to built-up in Hengyang was detected. The PLUS model confirmed that the area of forest, cultivated and grass will reduce, and the rate of decrease will slow down in the future, while water areas will slightly increase. Our work enriches the methodology of intensity analysis and provides a scientific reference for the sustainable development and management of land resources in Hengyang.

The term "Urban Heat Island" (UHI) refers to a city or metropolitan area that is significantly warmer than its surroundings. Heatwaves are one of the most visible hazards associated with UHI, that intensified exponentially over the last two decades. The overall approach of the study is initially based on a review of the literature and qualitative studies. The findings were applied to the case study to obtain empirical shreds of evidence. The study investigated the spatiotemporal urbanization trends and their impacts on UHI in Lahore, Pakistan, using multiple datasets. By identifying thermal drivers and simulating the spatial pattern, the direct relationship between development patterns and thermal properties can be visualized. To identify hot spots multi-temporal Landsat TM/OLI satellite images were processed using GIS and remote sensing techniques. It also investigates urban green spaces using spectral indices like the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The findings indicate that Lahore's urbanization trend is intensifying in both existing and newly proposed zones which increases the pressure on land use planning. The negative correlation between Land Surface Temperature (LST) and NDVI confirms urban sprawl at the expense of green spaces, reshaping and aggregating the UHI profile of Lahore. These methodologies were combined to create UHI mitigation strategies that may aid communication among various stakeholders, including those in academia, development authorities, planners, and practitioners of the built environment. LST calculation by Landsat 9 proved efficient in comparison to Landsat 8 which may be due to improvement in spatial and spectral domain in architectural design Landsat series.
