Evaluation of landfill site choice using AHP and GIS case study: Oum Azza, morocco

Abstract: The amount of household waste produced by the mainly urban population in Morocco continues to increase year after year. Morocco is thus confronted with the problems of storage and disposal of this waste, which are composed largely of organic matter, bio-waste. In the recent past, these wastes have been buried in wild dumps or in old quarries located in areas close to urban centers without any treatment or control. This can constitute significant risks both for public health and the environment and for the futu… Show more

“…Developed by Thomas SAATY in 1980, AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) is a simple and effective decision support method for dealing with complex problems with multiple attributes [10]. It is a flexible and simple technique, frequently used by researchers and practitioners to compare several objectives or alternatives [12]. It makes it possible to establish ranking relationships between alternatives through pairwise comparisons [10].…”

“…Combined GIS and Fuzzy AHP is applied in suitability analysis for landfill site selection in Kolkata, India [49], for solid waste disposal site location in Iranshahr County in Iran [50]. Also highly applied are combined methods of GIS, AHP or Fuzzy AHP and remote sensing techniques [51,52] and combined GIS, AHP and TOPSIS for landfill site selection [53,54].…”
