Evaluation of LDL goal achievement in statin consumption, south east of Iran

Abstract: Lipid goal achievement and statin consumption were estimated at extreme/very-high/high/moderate and low cardiovascular risk categories. In the cross-sectional study, 585 patients treated with statin therapy referring to the heart clinic of Birjand were recruited. Patients were classified and examined LDL-C values and the proportion reaching targets according to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists guideline. Three patterns of statin use (high/moderate/low-intensity statin therapy) in all patie… Show more

“…Not all serum lipids are equally suited as only TC, LDL-C and apolipoprotein B showed considerable stability. This is important as especially LDL-C is used for defining treatment goals in clinical settings [ 61 ]. The fact that adverse lipid profiles tend to be stable throughout childhood and adolescence suggests that children should be tested for dyslipidemia in early childhood to identify those with already elevated serum lipids.…”

“…55,56 Depression is often accompanied by elevated levels of CRP, 57,58 and inflammation has been linked to depression through mechanisms such as insulin resistance and interactions with monoamine metabolism. [59][60][61] Higher scores on the AHEI-2010 are associated with a lower risk of CRP 62 and insulin resistance 63 due, in part, to a reduced risk of obesity. 64 The intake of foods with antiinflammatory properties, such as those included in the AHEI, may also reduce CRP levels through the antioxidant effects of n-3 fatty acids, dietary fiber, phytochemicals, carotenoids, and vitamin C. [65][66][67][68] These properties may also influence monoamine concentrations, which have been linked to high levels of depressive symptoms and inflammatory biomarkers.…”

“…One potential factor is the anti‐inflammatory properties of the recommended dietary pattern, which may reduce the risk of depression 55,56 . Depression is often accompanied by elevated levels of CRP, 57,58 and inflammation has been linked to depression through mechanisms such as insulin resistance and interactions with monoamine metabolism 59–61 . Higher scores on the AHEI‐2010 are associated with a lower risk of CRP 62 and insulin resistance 63 due, in part, to a reduced risk of obesity 64 .…”

“…Recent clinical studies have uncovered intriguing findings about the effectiveness of statin therapy for patients at risk of CVD. Statins have been shown to significantly reduce LDL-C levels, thereby improving the lipid profile and offering better protection against cardiovascular events for high-risk patients when compared to conventional lipid-lowering treatments ( 9 , 10 ). Considering statin's properties and the existing clinical evidence, this class of anti-atherosclerosis drugs is the preferred therapeutic approach for both primary and secondary prevention of CVDs ( 11 ).…”
