Evaluation of left ventricular diastolic function based on flow energetic parameters in chronic kidney disease with diastolic dysfunction

Abstract: Background Intra‐ventricular blood flow dynamics is considered as an important component of left ventricular (LV) function assessment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the LV diastolic function in chronic kidney disease (CKD) with different degrees of LV diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) by using flow energetic parameters. Methods In this study, a total of 96 cases were recruited, including 58 CKD patients and 38 healthy controls. CKD patients were divided into 2 groups according to LVDD severity, named as… Show more

“…Three peaks were observed in EL in the LV cavity of elderly outpatients in the present study. This pattern is consistent with previous findings 12‐14,16 . In the present study, ED‐EL and LD‐EL were higher than Sys‐EL, while LD‐EL was higher than ED‐EL.…”

“…Previous studies evaluated these EL in the LV of healthy adults (29.5 ± 4.8 years old) 12 and children 13 using VFM. Recent study also showed the assessment of EL could be considered as an important supplementary tool to quantitatively evaluate the impaired blood flow efficiency and LV diastolic function in patients with various diastolic dysfunction 14 . Other studies showed that the energetic efficiency assessed by VFM provided prognostic information in valvular diseases 15,16 .…”

“…Furthermore, we found that EL during late diastole showed similar results as total diastole. But EL during early diastole had no significant difference between the patients with early CKD and control participants, which may be attribute to the fluctuation of EL during early diastole with different degrees of diastolic dysfunction in patients [30].…”

“…The proportion of patients with HF and preserved EF (HFpEF) is high in the elderly (16) (14,19). HFpEF often necessitates the evaluation of LV diastolic function.…”
