“…Furthermore, the mean fibrosis among patients with different grades of haemosiderosis seemed to remain in similar levels (fibrosis almost 3), suggesting that, although liver iron deposition progresses, the liver disease, regarding fibrosis, is stabilized. This finding was consistent with previous studies, which have suggested no progression of hepatic fibrosis or increased liver iron stores during long‐term treatment with deferiprone , and liver fibrosis to be independent from liver siderosis .…”

“…It was suggested that low serum ferritin can be monitored without biopsy but liver biopsy should be performed in those with a high serum ferritin concentration [14]. Serum hyaluronic acid, type III precollagen, collagen IV, and lamini were considered as the serum markers for liver fibrosis [10,15]. We found that the degree of hepatic iron overload was correlated with both the level of serum hyaluronic acid and type III precollagen.…”

“…There was a significant inverse relationship between serum Zn level and HA level (mean HA 244.1 ± 223.2 in patients with serum Zn ≤65 vs. 118.8 ± 117.9 ng/mL in patients with serum Zn >65 mg/dL, p<0.0001) (118). Table 5 describes studies in individuals with diseases to other organs that are also accompanied by liver involvement (119)(120)(121)(122)(123). HA levels were found to be elevated in a sample of 164 critically ill patients compared to 61 matched blood donors.…”

“…Transfusion-dependent thalassemia major (119) and pediatric β-thalassemia major (120) are described in two reports. HA was elevated, especially in patients with HCV co-morbidity in the transfusion-dependent thalassemia major sample (119). HA correlates with stages of fibrosis in pediatric β-thalassemia major patients (120).…”
