Evaluation of Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Aluminium-7475 Reinforced with Graphite and Fly ash

Abstract: The aluminium is used for variety of reasons and they are known for their improved strength, stiffness, wear resistance which are useful in the marine, space, transport, automobile related industries. When aluminium reinforced with ceramic materials like fly ash, silicon carbide, tungsten carbide, boron carbide, fired bricks then a composite of better plastic forming capability, excellent heat and wear resistance will be formed. The objective of the experiment is to assess the thermal and mechanical properties… Show more

“…increases. This decrease in thermal properties is due to the lower conductivity of the reinforcement material (pumice) when compared to virgin aluminum material (Cem Okumus et al 2012, Santhosh et al 2019: Reddy et al 2020Reddy et al , 2021. The composite's optimum thermal conductivity of 115.1 W m −1 • C was observed at a PP content of 2.5 wt%.…”

“…where r theo is known as theoretical density of the composite, r m is known as the density of the matrix, r r is the density of the reinforcement, f m is the mass fraction of the matrix and f r is the mass fraction of reinforcement. Figure 5 illustrates the density (both theoretical and experimental) of the AA7475 with the addition of ZrO 2 and graphite powders [2]. Theoretical and experimental density were determined by employing the rule of mixture and Archimedes's principle, respectively.…”

“…On the other hand, the current processing and manufacturing methods for MMCs and HMMCs have limitations, such as high production costs, limited design flexibility, and reduced mechanical properties. To increase the hardness, tensile strength, thermal conductivity, and thermal conductivity (TC) coefficient of thermal expansion, fly ash and graphite reinforcement are incorporated into the AA7475 matrix [1,2]. A hybrid metal matrix composites of AA 7075 reinforced with Al 2 O 3 and SiC was prepared by squeeze casting, and its corrosion rate was lower than that of pure AA 7075.…”

“…A 95% confidence interval is commonly used in ANOVA to assess the significance of various parameters and their interactions. When the p-value is equal to or less than 0.05, the effect of a parameter is considered statistically significant [24][25][26][27][28].In this study, a quadratic model in ANOVA is presented in Table 4 [29,30]. The p-values (P) and F-statistics readings for the derived quadratic design indicate significant second-order interactions for all the variables, whereas LD * SD and LD * RT show significant first-order interactions [31,32].…”
