“… 23,24 The C–O–S stretching vibration absorption peak of the sulfuric acid group on amino hexose appeared around 830 cm −1 , the strong absorption peak of O–S stretching vibration appeared around 1240 cm −1 , and the C O stretching vibration peak of the sulfuric acid group in the carboxyl group appeared around 1621 cm −1 was also found in both, all of these indicated that the main structure of the OL obtained after oxidation did not change significantly. It has been known that the reason for the conspicuous anticoagulant activity and cytocompatibility of LMWH is the presence of a reactive pentose structure in its molecular chain, 25 they can bind to antithrombin III (AT III), change the conformation of the antithrombin molecules, and inhibit the activity of coagulation factors IIa, Xa and IXa, exhibiting strong anticoagulant properties. The similarity of molecular structure between OL and LMWH is of great significance to retain the anticoagulant activity of OL.…”

“…Heparin, in combination with other biomaterials, increases angiogenesis (new vessel formation) and thus plays a role in the wound healing process. In our previous study, we also demonstrated the involvement of the VEGF gene in biomaterial-induced angiogenesis [ 46 ]. Keeping in view the pro-angiogenic and anti-microbial potential of heparin along with many other known therapeutic properties, we investigated the heparin-loaded alginate dressings.…”

“…There were only a few endothelial cells attached to the G-PP after 24 h or 48 h with the poor morphological phenotype and the growth condition of the cells. The cells of OX-CO-PP, OX-SC-PP and OX-SH-PP were spindle-shaped after 24 h, and the number of cells significantly increased after 48 h with normal morphological phenotype and good growth condition, indicating the good cell compatibility and the enhanced growth of endothelial cells for OX-SH-PP [39,40].…”
