Evaluation of nutritive value and shelf life of strawberry genotypes

Abstract: An investigation was carried out to evaluate the nutritive value and shelf life of five strawberry genotypes. It was found that under fresh condition the highest ascorbic acid (45.76 mg/100g) was obtained by Rabi-3 and the highest ?-carotene (15.09 IU/100g) by Festival. The maximum amount of reducing sugar (6.373 g/100g) and non-reducing sugar (2.947 g/100g) was recorded in Camarosa and Festival respectively. The maximum amount of calcium (0.480%) in BADC Strawberry, iron (93.50 ppm) in Rabi-3, phosphorus (0.0… Show more

“…Fruit and vegetable perishability is related to negative physiological changes, such as weight loss owing to respiration and transpiration, softening of flesh, and decline of defensive strength to pathogen infection. Such spoilage costs both merchants and retailers a huge sum of money [6]. One of the most essential techniques for reducing post-harvest losses in broccoli is to provide optimal quality-controlled store conditions as well as appropriate packaging materials.…”

“…According to earlier research, the consumption stage of the value chain can also result in significant losses or waste. Various studies applauded modernized value chains and technology, noting the importance of proper handling, transport and storage control, and stated that significant progress has been made in lowering post-harvest losses from field to storage (Chowhan et al, 2016). Nevertheless, for the small farmer to make economic profit further, it is also necessary to control losses higher up to the value chain.…”
