Evaluation of Patient-reported Quality-of-life Outcomes After Renal Surgery

Abstract: Objectives To assess the feasibility of two patient-reported health related quality of life (HRQOL) instruments, CARE and SF-12, as tools for evaluating HRQOL outcome consequences following renal surgery, and to determine which domains of these HRQOL instruments are most sensitive to HRQOL outcome effects of renal surgery. Methods Patients completed CARE and SF-12 preoperatively (baseline) and at 2, 4, 12 and 24 weeks after surgery. Clinical data, patient response rate, HRQOL changes over time, and likelihoo… Show more

“…14,15 RAPN maintained a low invasiveness for patients, and caused an improvement in QOL after surgery for renal tumors. 16 In the present article, technical advancements and updated outcomes will be reviewed. Furthermore, associated preoperative factors for extended WIT will be analyzed and discussed for RAPN, based on our experience and previous studies.…”

“…Our institution is looking into methods that may improve our overall QoL response rates. A 2012 examination of QoL outcomes following renal surgery gave patients the option of internet or paper-based follow-up [ 17 ]. Patients who did not respond were contacted by phone or e-mail up to three times.…”
