Evaluation of Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) Varieties in Surguja District of Chhattisgarh

Abstract

Potato is one of the basic vegetable of mass consumption in world and become 4th important staple food crop after rice, wheat and maize. Potato is one of the important crops for tribal farmers of Surguja district but farmers use uncertiied seed of potato for cultivation resulting in lower yields. An on farm trial was conducted during rabi season of 2015-16 and 2016-17 at ive farmers' ield. The trial was laid out with three treatments i.e., T1-Farmers' practice (uncertiied potato seed) and T2-Recommonded practice (certiied seed of potato-Kufri khayati) and T3-Recommonded practice (certiied seed of potato-Kufri pukhraj). Yield attributes, yield, gross return and B:C ratio were recorded and found that signiicantly higher yields were obtained under T3 during both the years as compared to farmers' practice.
