Evaluation of Quality of Life of Adult Patients with Celiac Disease in Argentina: From Questionnaire Validation to Assessment

Abstract: This cross-sectional study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, validate, and apply a Celiac Disease Quality of Life (CD-QoL) questionnaire to a representative sample of Argentina’s celiac population. A previously developed and validated questionnaire (Celiac Disease Questionnaire: CDQ) was chosen as a tool for assessing the health-related quality of Life (HRQoL) of adult celiac patients in Argentina. Therefore, the study was performed in four stages: (a) translation and re-translation of the CDQ to Argentini… Show more

“…The mean F-CDQ total score for the whole population was 73 (±12), with “Social” and “Gastrointestinal Symptoms” being the least affected subdomains. This total score should be considered as high, in agreement with results previously reported [ 21 , 22 ]. It seems possible to establish a link between the low rate of “Gastrointestinal Symptoms” and the high compliance with the GFD.…”

“…Diet compliance is an independent factor improving CD patients’ QOL, and finding the tools to facilitate this adherence remains a challenge. Several studies suggest that educational interventions can improve the management of CD and perceived QOL [ 21 , 26 ]. As far as demographic factors are concerned, women had a lower QOL than men, consistent with previous studies [ 21 , 28 , 37 , 38 ].…”

“…In Italy, the lower age was the only clinical variable that affected the QOL of CD children and their parents [ 23 ]. A study from Argentina reported a higher score of health-related QOL among those people who admit having knowledge of CD related national regulations and benefits [ 24 ]. The health-related QOL for Saudi CD children on GFD was generally comparable to the healthy control, except for the general health domain [ 25 ].…”

“…To date, in Spain, only CD–QoL has been adapted and validated by comparison with EQ–5D ( 18 ). The CDQ original version is from Germany, since then has been adapted and validated in France, Turkey, Italy, Iran, and more recently in Argentina with good psychometric properties ( 19 23 ). The CDQ also has been adapted and validated in Brazil and Poland ( 24 , 25 ).…”
