Evaluation of Reservoir Water Quality Using Water Quality Index in Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar Reservoir, India

Abstract: Weighted Arithmetic Water Quality Index is a single number that expresses the water quality of a sample collected from a water body by amalgamating thirteen water quality parameters in this study. The sole of this is to express the quality of water in a simple and concise manner for recreational use such as irrigation, domestic or industrial. This paper employs Weighted Arithmetic Water Quality Index, as a simple pollution indicator tool in Govind Vallabh Pant Sagar Reservoir. The index was applied to six samp… Show more

“…Pant Sagar reservoir was the root cause for the establishment of many power plants around it. The study area lies between 24° to 24°12'North latitude and 82°38' to 83°5'East longitude 10 . The reservoir has a capacity of 10625 cubic million meters at the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 268m above mean sea level with an estimated annual rate of inflow of around 6301 cubic million meter 8 .…”

“…WQI is determined for the quality of groundwater, as it is an important tool for the evaluation of overall groundwater quality. 14 To measure the WQI, the subsequent main steps have been taken into account. In the initial step, some parameters were chosen from the determined parameters in the water samples and weightage (w i ) which was taken numerically from 1 to 5 depending upon their significance in the evaluation of groundwater quality.…”
