Evaluation of Sd-LDL, MDA, AOPPs , Atherogenic index as Cardiovascular Risk Factors among Diabetic Atherosclerosis Patients

Abstract

Objectives: The present study investigates the relationship between serum levels of Malondialdehyde (MDA), Small dense LDL cholesterol (sd-LDL-C), advanced products of protein oxidation (AOPP), Total antioxidant capacity (TCA) and Atherogenic indices in type 2 diabetic patients with atherosclerosis compared with healthy individuals. Results: In this study, 50 healthy individuals and 60 patients were selected among the subjects referred to Shahid Madani Hospital. Atherosclerosis was determined with standard gold angiography. The serum levels of sd-LDL, MDA, AOPP, and TCA were evaluated by a specific method. Logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to examine the association between risk factors and disease. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that higher Triglycerides-Glucose (TYG) and atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), were associated with a higher risk of diabetic atherosclerosis patients compared with other risk factors (OR = 19.92, 95% CI: 6.65-39.67, p < 0.001) and (OR = 12.05, 95% CI: 4.88-29.70, p < 0.001), respectively. The area under the curve of disease predicted by sd-LDL and TYG was higher than other parameters (p < 0.001). The findings indicated that increased sd-LDL, TYG, and AIP might be useful for identifying individuals at higher risk of diabetic atherosclerosis patients.
