Evaluation of Stamping Lubricants in Forming Galvannealed Steels for Industrial Application

Abstract: Lubrication is one of the process variables that affect the quality of stamping sheet materials. Using a good lubricant can significantly reduce sciap rate and/or improve the quality of stamping. In this study, different types of lubricants were evaluated using strip draw test (SDT) and deep draw test (DDT) for stamping of galvannealed steel sheets. Einite element (EE) simulations were carried out to determine the coefficient of friction at tool-work piece interface during deep diawing under different lubricat… Show more

“…The drawbead friction test was also used by Figueiredo et al 66 to show the strong dependency of die surface roughness on μ variation. Ju et al 67 and Subramonian et al 68 used the cup deep drawing process as a simulative test to characterize the lubricants for stamping of aluminum alloy and steel grade sheets. They minimized the error between experimental and finite element simulation data to evaluate μ .…”

“…In recent studies, dry film lubricants have been used in forming to avoid scratching and galling of the tools [4,5]. Regarding the evaluation of various lubricants, twist compression test [6], deep drawing test (including CDT [7], and strip drawing test [8]) are found to be most practical testing methods. Using inverse analysis and the measured data from CDT tests, the CoF can be estimated with FE simulation.…”

“…Deep-drawing is also regarded as a laboratory test that can be used to assess the lubricant performance [6][7][8][9]. According to [7] the lower is the punch force, the better is the lubricant.…”
