“…With respect to the antifungal properties of the essential oil components, Marei et al (2012) studied the effects of monoterpenes on potato dextrose agar medium over Rhizoctonia solani, F. oxysporum, P. digitatum and A. niger, and affirmed that terpenes such as thymol and (S)-limonene has a strong inhibitory effect on pectin methyl esterase (PMEs) (EC 3.1.1.11) and cellulases indicating that those enzymes are targets for monoterpenes.
