Evaluation of the Association of Omentin 1 rs2274907 A>T and rs2274908 G>A Gene Polymorphisms with Coronary Artery Disease in Indian Population: A Case Control Study

Abstract: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major cause of death all over the world. CAD is caused by atherosclerosis which is induced by the interaction of genetic factors and environmental factors. Traditional environmental risk factors include hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, lack of exercise, obesity, poor diet and others. Genome-wide association studies have revealed the association of certain gene polymorphisms with susceptibility to CAD. Omentin 1 is an adipokine secreted by the visceral adipose tissues and ha… Show more

“…The SNPs can also be the cause of variation in drug response between individuals [21]. Moreover, they can be the cause of several pathophysiological disorders such as diabetes [22][23][24][25] cancers or atherosclerosis [21,[26][27][28][29][30][31], obesity, hypertension, psychiatric disorders [20], inflammatory and autoimmune diseases [32]. SNPs at the miRNA gene may enhance, reduce expression, change maturation of miRNA, or disrupt miRNA-mRNA binding [33].…”

“…Omentin 1 is an adipokine secreted by visceral adipose tissues and has been reported to have anti-in ammatory, cardioprotective, and enhances insulin sensitivity. Chandan K Jha et al, 2019 reported that in CAD Indian patients, there were lower omentin-1 levels in plasma and in pericardial adipose tissue compared to controls without CAD [24]. Moreover, it was suggested that reduced plasma omentin levels can be used as a biomarker for metabolic risk factors [25].…”

“…Circulating omentin-1 was associated with inflammatory disease, obesity, IR, diabetes and diabetic vascular complications, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, metabolic syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, endothelial dysfunction, and atherosclerosis and related cardiovascular diseases such as ischemic heart disease [ 6 – 11 ], all of which have been proposed to be implicated in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis [ 3 , 12 , 13 ]. Moreover, it has been reported that serum omentin-1 inversely correlates with leptin and positively correlates with adiponectin and vitamin D [ 7 , 9 , 14 ], whereas the abovementioned cytokines have also been suggested to be involved in bone metabolism [ 14 ]. Thus, we postulated that omentin-1 may be associated with the regulation of bone metabolism and might play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis.…”
