“…Indeed, it is interesting to note that efforts have been made to investigate the bioactive characteristics of EOs from various Origanum species. Numerous studies (Belmehdi et al, 2021; El Baaboua et al, 2022; Rosato, Carocci, et al, 2018; Rosato, Maggi, et al, 2018; Salvagno et al, 2020) have documented the combined activity of Origanum EO in combination with antibiotics, but against other bacterial species, such as S. aureus and Campylobacter spp. In this study, the obtained data showed that the concentration of antibiotics was significantly decreased when mixed with EOs.…”

“…The plates were pre-incubated for 1 h at 4 C in order to improve the diffusion of EOs before the growth of bacteria on the agar, and then incubated at 37 C for 24 h. The clear zone diameter generated around the wells, including the 6 mm of each well, was measured in order to evaluate the antibacterial activity. If the inhibition zone was 12 mm or smaller, the EOs were considered as inactive (El Baaboua et al, 2022). Every experiment was run in triplicate.…”

“…The disk-diffusion technique was used to determine the primary screening of the examined EO antibacterial activity in accordance with the previously published procedures [ 70 , 71 ]. In brief, the culture suspension was inoculated by swabbing on Mueller-Hinton Agar medium (Biokar, Beauvais, France).…”

“…Some EOs have an action on quorum sensing, used by bacteria to coordinate and ensure communication between them [ 221 , 222 ]. Several studies have investigated the synergy between EOs components [ 223 , 224 ]. A variation between different outcomes was observed according to the test organism, antibiotic and essential oil tested [ 225 ].…”
