Evaluation of the Criteria for Selecting Proposed Variants of Utility Functions in the Adaptation of Historic Regional Architecture

Abstract: In this article, the authors propose ways to evaluate the criteria for the considered variants of utility functions in the adaptation of historic regional architecture. The proposed set of assessment criteria (thermo-modernisation criteria, comfort of use, financial considerations, criteria of social benefits, and protection of cultural heritage) emphasises the multidimensional character of the problem of choosing a new function for a historic building. Some of the criteria are measurable while others are diff… Show more

“…Similarly, the authors of [49] proposed a multi-criteria hybrid model, using the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory method (DEMATEL) and the Analytic Network Process (ANP) to select a utility function for the purpose of adapting the building of 'Stara Polana', located in Zakopane. Both in this publication and in [50], a group of experts and specialists used a questionnaire to assess dependencies between factors that affect the criterion of societal benefits and the benefits associated with preserving cultural heritage. These were some of the parameters selected for analysis and rating in association with the investigated alternative forms of adaptive reuse of the Stara Polana heritage site in Zakopane.…”

“…A team of collaborating authors in the US and Poland address the issue of energy efficiency of modern buildings. The scope of work includes preheating of ventilation air [1][2][3][4], multi-criterial analysis [5,6], the development of an integrated approach, called Environmental Quality Management [7][8][9] in the context of building physics [10,11], fuzzy logic [12] or artificial neural networks [13,14]. The greater focus on neural networks (NNs) is justified by the observation that currently used energy and hygrothermal models are parametric and may not be suitable for application in real-time building of automatic controls [14,15].…”

“…The consequences of wrong decisions concerning the renovation or neglected maintenance of buildings lead to irreversible destruction processes [14][15][16][17]. The ageing process of a building is closely related to technical wear [18][19][20]. Absence of renovation work results in its acceleration.…”
