With the development of economy and the lack of land resource, many highrise buildings have been constructed in big cities, which result in land subsidence in the soft soil areas, such as Shanghai and Tianjin in China. In this paper, the land subsidence caused by high-rise buildings was studied by centrifuge model tests and numerical simulations. The silty clay of layer No. 4 experiences the maximum subsidence. The central area of the building group has larger subsidence, and the subsidence superimposition effect is obvious. It can exceed the allowance and cause land subsidence hazard. Plastic deformation will occur in soil, causing the larger land subsidence when the load is large enough. The land subsidence caused by high-rise buildings with different distances was also studied. The building distance is smaller, the subsidence superimposition effect is more obvious, especially for the central area of buildings. It is feasible to increase the distance of buildings to prevent excessive land subsidence. The results from the 3D numerical simulations match well with those of the centrifuge model tests which can be used to analyze and predict the land subsidence of high-rise buildings.

This paper considers the application of the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) instead of the highly nonlinear model of a reactive batch distillation column for optimization. The architecture has been developed for fuzzy modeling that learns information from a data set, in order to compute the membership function and rule base in accordance with the given input-output data. In this work, the differential evolution algorithm has been employed for optimization of operation policy of reactive batch distillation for producing ethyl acetate. In optimization, minimal batch time and high purity of product are considered, and reflux ratio and final batch time are taken as decision parameters. The results show that the reduced model (ANFIS) is able to properly create a robust model of the reactive batch distillation, and CPU use is reduced to 1/18,000 of that of a real mathematical model. The highest yield and mole fraction of ethyl acetate were achieved through the use of the obtained optimization policy.

The engineering characteristics of soils are controlled by the state of the microstructure of soils to a great extent. With the withdrawal of groundwater controlled reasonably, the engineering-environmental effect of the high-rise building group becomes the main cause of land subsidence in Shanghai. This paper studied the microstructure of each soil layer under the building loads in the centrifuge model by the scanning electron microscopy and the mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) for qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, respectively. The shape, size and contact condition of the basic unit of the soil microstructure were analyzed. The pore structure of each soil layer was studied by MIP, and the pore distribution of each soil layer was studied by the fractal theory. The ink-bottle effect exists in the intrusion stage in the MIP test. There are four different fractal dimensions for silty clay of layer No. 4 and clayey soil of layer No. 8 and three different fractal dimensions for silty sand of layer No. 7 and layer No. 9. The micro and macro mechanisms of land subsidence caused by the high-rise building group were analyzed.
