Evaluation of the Mythic 18 hematology analyzer for use with canine, feline, and equine samples

Abstract: Abstract. The Mythic 18 is a fully automated hematology bench-top analyzer using impedance technology for a complete blood cell count (CBC) and a 3-part white blood cell count (WBC) differential. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the Mythic for assessment of agreement, precision, linearity, carry-over, stability, and usability under practice conditions. Ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid-blood samples from 122 dogs, 140 cats, and 123 horses were analyzed with the Mythic and reference methods (Sys… Show more

“…Laser‐based analyzers ( n = 3) included the ProCyte Dx (IDEXX) and the LaserCyte Dx (IDEXX) in 2 studies, and the ForCyte in one study (Oxford Science Inc.) . Impedance analyzers ( n = 6) included the pocH‐100iV (Sysmex) in 2 studies, and the Mythic 18 (Orpheé), Scil VetABC (Scil), MS45 (Melet Schloesing), Heska CBC (Boule, Medicalab), and VetScan HMT (Abaxis) in one study each . Available software versions of the analyzers are listed in Tables ; however, the impact of potential software updates on analyzer performance was not evaluated here.…”

“…The hematological parameters were measured by a fully automatic hemocytometer (Mythic TM 18 (Ringelsan CO. Turkey) in private hematological laboratory (Al-Noor for hematological and biochemical analysis). This hematological analyser performed complete blood count (CBC) on EDTA anticoagulated blood (34) for counting the cellular blood components, the Mythic TM 18 uses the impedance technique only. The analysis then was completed within a few minutes and the results printed directly from the machine.…”
