A b s t r a c tIntroduction: In this study, the hypothesis that bone mineral density (BMD) of peri-, pre-and postmenopausal women is associated with the current level of habitual physical activity, as well as past physical activity, at the age of building peak bone mass, was tested. Material and methods: The study involved 500 Polish women aged 40 to 70. For the assessment of BMD and bone mineral content (BMC) the densitometry method (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, DXA) of the forearm bone was used. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to assess the present level of physical activity. The assessment of past physical activity was related to adolescence. Results: There was a significant, strong influence on the norm BMD in the distal forearm sections values in the distal forearm sections of such variables as: older age of the first menstruation (OR = 1.37; p = 0.002), sufficient present physical activity (OR = 1.57; p = 0.001), and particularly high past physical activity (OR = 6.77; p = 0.003). Significantly lower chances for the norm BMD dis were found in women with the oldest hormonal status (OR = 0.09; p < 0.001). In the proximal segment, the analogous conditions of the norm BMD, and in addition the chances for good mineralization, were increased by higher body mass index (OR = 1.11; p < 0.001). Sufficient present activity increased the chances of good forearm mineralization in the proximal part more than four times (OR = 4.2; p < 0.001), and a high level of past physical activity increased these chances several dozen times (OR = 69.9; p < 0.001). Conclusions: Physical activity proved to be one of the most important factors determining the statistically significant correct mineralization of bone tissue of women.

Menopause is the permanent cessation of menstruation, and among the main symptoms reported have been night sweats, heat waves, increased body fat at the central level, dyslipidemia, hypertension, osteoporosis, insulin resistance, diabetes, mild cognitive impairment, depression, periodontitis, varicose veins, apnea, urinary genital discomfort, as well as dryness in the mouth and eye. The diagnosis, study, and care of menopausal or postmenopausal women have had great advances, such as recognizing the sub-inclusion of women and female animal models in basic and clinical studies and proposing in the same design of the study the analysis by sex. Subsequently, the need for specialized ethical training was identified, beginning in undergraduate, postgraduate, and clinical practice. To achieve this, several actions were carried out, such as the foundation of Women's Health Institutes, the implementation of the Institutional and Private Committees of Ethic, and the development of validated instruments to evaluate signs and symptoms. Currently, there is no consensus that meets the ethical requirements for care and research in these patients. Efforts have been made practically by pathology, without considering together the social and psychobiological condition. What is intended in this document is to present the ethical aspects related to the study and medical care of women in menopause.

BackgroundOsteoporosis is a social disease and epidemic of the 21st century, and is also a growing problem in the ageing Polish society. The aim of the study was to assess the quality of life (QoL) in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis. MethodsThe study was an outpatient, questionnaire-based poll, carried out from VI.2018 to V.2019. A group of 198 women, aged 72.31±8.59 years with diagnosed postmenopausal osteoporosis in two Osteoporosis Clinics in the city of Łódź (Poland) were included. The paper uses: the Polish version of the QUALEFFO 41 quality of life scale, the VAS scale and a survey of my own authorship. The data were analysed using multiple linear regression.ResultsThe average result of QUALEFFO-41 was 40.26±16.92 points. Analysing individual QUALEFFO-41 domains the lowest quality of life was found in the mental function domain (mental function 48.49±18.06 points). The visual analogue scale of pain was 4.87±2.39 points. The VAS scale positively correlated with all QUALEFFO 41 domains. Marital status, education and financial situation had a significant statistical impact on the quality of life (p<;0.05). Multiple regression step-by-step analysis showed that pain expressed on the VAS scale, pain awakening from sleep, taking sleeping pills and older age of respondents deteriorate the quality of life.ConclusionThe analysis showed that Polish women with postmenopausal osteoporosis have an average quality of life. In Poland the assessment of quality of life of chronically ill patients and routine evaluation of pain severity on the VAS scale is not common.
