Evaluation of the repair capacities and color stabilities of a resin nanoceramic and hybrid CAD/CAM blocks

Abstract: PURPOSE. This study evaluated the color stabilities of two computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) blocks and a nanofill composite resin and the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) between the materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twelve specimens of 4 mm height were prepared for both Lava Ultimate (L) and Vita Enamic (E) CAD/CAM blocks. Half of the specimens were thermocycled (10,000 cycle, 5° to 55°C) for each material. Both thermocycled and non-thermocycled specimens were surface treated … Show more

“…Meanwhile, glass ceramics are more resistant to discoloration than composite resin materials as stated by Bahadır et al in 2020. [23] This is also in accordance with Sulaya and Guttal in 2020 [10] after evaluation of patients' satisfaction of 20 PEEK crowns via questionnaire. They found 50%-60% of the participants had given a score of 5 (excellent) and around 20%-30% scored it at 4 (good) and around 10%-20% scored it at 3 (average).…”

“…A visible color change of 3.5 units is the standard in most clinical trials. 21 The acceptable limit of ΔE was established at 3.5 in this investigation. Color change values (ΔE) > 3.5 units could be recognized with the naked eye in all stages of the assessment across all the experimental groups.…”

“…and 25% vol. polymer part (14) as resinous part of the material absorbed most of laser energy not allowing laser beam to reach the self-adhesive resin cement used which cause softening and sever damage of the ceramic surface. The absorption coefficient of laser for Vita Enamic is much higher than laser penetration (15) , for that using Er,Cr:YSGG laser for debonding such materials failed to keep the restoration.…”
