Evaluation of the Susceptibility of Several Plum (Prunus Domestica L.) Cultivars to Plum Pox Virus (Ppv) Infection in the Field. Sharka-Like Symptoms Observed on 'Jojo' Fruit are Not Related to PPV

Abstract: Susceptibility of plum cultivars: 'Katinka', 'Jubileum', 'Diana', 'Valjevka', 'Żółta Afaska', 'Elena', 'Jojo', 'President', 'Vision', and 'Węgierka Zwykła' (Pozegaca type, included as reference, highly susceptible cultivar) to aphid-vectored Plum pox virus (strain D), was evaluated. The trees were grown for 7-8 years in the field characterized with high infection pressure. 'Katinka' and 'President' showed susceptibility even higher than 'Węgierka Zwykła'. 'Vision' and 'Valjevka' showed relatively low susceptib… Show more

“…High susceptibility of the cultivar 'Edda' Victoria* 9 0 1 *control cultivar; **on a 1-9 point scale, where 1 means withering or withered trees, 9 -no symptoms to the Plum pox virus was recorded by Preda et al (2012) in an experiment conducted in Romania. The occurrence of sharka on 'Jubileum' plum trees was also found in earlier studies conducted in Poland (Rozpara et al 2010;Malinowski et al 2013) and also in the Netherlands (Verhoeven et al 1998), whereas Ogašanović et al (2006), based on an experiment conducted in Serbia, recognized the cultivar 'Jubileum' as tolerant to sharka. In the available literature, there is no information on the susceptibility of the cultivars 'Reeves' and ' Avalon' to the Plum pox virus.…”

“…Sharka is one of the most dangerous plum diseases, which limits the plum cultivation in Europe, including Poland [ 11 , 12 ]. Among the 36 Japanese plum cultivars that were assessed in the experiment, the strongest symptoms of this disease were observed on trees and fruits of ‘Barkhatnaya’ and ‘Tatyana’ cultivars ( Table 1 ).…”
