Evaluation of Various Laryngeal Pathologies: Videolaryngoscopy Versus Videolaryngostroboscopy

Abstract: Voice disorders are common in various laryngeal pathologies. The aim of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic value of videolaryngostroboscopy (VLSS) over videolaryngoscopy (VLS) in laryngeal pathologies. This was a prospective observational study. Detailed examination was carried out for 80 cases which presented with different laryngeal pathologies. Cases were evaluated on the basis of VLS and VLSS in the same sitting and diagnosed separately. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negativ… Show more

“…In addition to intubation, videolaryngoscopy has been shown to be successful for diagnostic and therapeutic surgical interventions in head and neck surgery. It has shown even superiority compared to videolaryngostroboscopy in diagnostic of different vocal pathologies [53]. Videolaryngoscopy can assist or replace traditional direct laryngoscopes for diagnostic of vocal pathology and small therapeutic Videolaryngoscopy, the Current Role in Airway Management DOI: http://dx.doi.org /10.5772/intechopen.93490 procedures such as vocal polypectomies [54].…”

“…Most of these studies analyze sound in the audible bandwidth, which gives incomplete information on the vibratory state of the vocal cords, while some others worked on the improvement of existing techniques such as local imaging or scanning. [7][8][9][10][11] In this context, this work aims to evaluate some larynx physical property variations through a non-intrusive passive smart listening collar. The latter can provide systematic and in vivo screening for some laryngeal diseases, including laryngeal cancer, by spectrotemporal analysis of the voice signal resonance.…”
