Evaluation of Vickers hardness and depth of cure of six composite resins photo-activated with different polymerization modes

Abstract: Aim:The current in vitro study evaluated Vickers hardness (VK) and depth of cure (hardness ratio) of six resin composites, polymerized with a light-emitting diode (LED) curing unit by different polymerization modes: Standard 20 s, Standard 40 s, Soft-start 40 s.Materials and Methods:Six resin composites were selected for the present study: three microhybrid (Esthet.X HD, Amaris, Filtek Silorane), two nanohybrid (Grandio, Ceram.X mono) and one nanofilled (Filtek Supreme XT). The VK of the surface was determined… Show more

“…Higher ARI values are favorable for avoiding damage to the enamel, as the residue may be safely removed with suitable rotary instruments 31) . Hardness is defined as the resistance of a material to indentation or penetration 32) . VHN and CD were recorded "in situ" in our study, allowing us to detect differences among the cements with regard to bracket type.…”

“…Para o método Convencional e Pulse delay as duas superfícies tiveram um comportamento estatisticamente semelhante. Resultados semelhantes foram encontrados por Poggio et al [19] . Para estes autores resultados assim dependem da quantidade total de energia que atinge a camada de compósito e na composição química dos mesmos.…”

“…The depth of cure was assessed by calculating the hardness ratio of the bottom to the top surface (%) [22]. Statistical data tests were conducted using one-way ANOVA followed by post hoc Fisher's LSD with a significance value of p<0.05 for light-curing distance treatment and resin thickness treatment.…”
