Evaluation of water erosion risk of Badinska River catchment, Southwest Bulgaria

Abstract: This investigation has been carried out at Badinska River watershed -one of the most famous torrents in Bulgaria. The purpose of the survey is to analyse the main erosion factors and erosion potential of territories, with a view to assess soil erosion risk and opportunity of high water formation from watershed. A methodical approach for determination and mapping of the territories in terms of the class of erosion risk with the use of GIS is applied. Assessments are made according to the "Methodology for prepar… Show more

“…Wilford et al (2004) state that Melton ratio in a range 0.26-1.21 characterizes debris flood watersheds. Similar statements are presented by Pavlova-Traykova et al (2017) and Baltakova et al (2018). Debris flows are often induced in gullies and mobilize large volumes of unconsolidated earth masses.…”

“…and spruce (Picea abies Karst.). They have in common the steep slopes, which are the main factor for soil erosion in the Struma river (Martensson et al, 2001;Malinov et al, 2009) watershed and its tributaries (Pavlova-Traykova et al, 2017;Pavlo-vaTraykova, 2019). In this case it means it is also the main factor for the high quantity of transported sediment in this watershed.…”

“…As for watersheds, the environmental damage caused by water erosion is numerous [8,9,[17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. The eroded particles rich in ne mineral and organic fractions will be transported and deposited to make a chemical enrichment in nutrients, used frequently in agriculture (phosphorus and nitrogen).…”
