Evaluation of wound healing treated with latex derived from rubber trees and Aloe Vera extract in rats

Abstract: PURPOSE:To compare the use of latex derivative and Aloe vera extract to wound healing. METHODS:Twenty one rats were randomly divided into three groups and each one had a wound made by incision. The treatment consisted in: derivative of latex (GL), Aloe vera extract (GA) and saline solution (GC). The wound area was measured on the 7th, 14th and 21st days and macroscopic and microscopic evaluation were done. RESULTS:The comparison between the measurements of the wounds presented statistical difference in GC and … Show more

“…Most of these in vivo studies have been done with Aloe vera extracts and gel. Application of topical Aloe vera favored wound healing in animal models with dermal incisions by reducing inflammatory cell infiltration, increasing CD4+/CD8+ ratio lymphocytes, and improving epidermal thickness and collagen deposition [36][37][38][39]. In another study conducted in Indonesia with several medicinal plants, the effect of Nigella sativa oil gel and Aloe vera gel to treat diabetic ulcers was investigated.…”

“…Aloe vera gel has excellent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, lipid- and glycemic-modulating effects [ [10] , [11] , [12] , [13] ]. Aloe vera gel and extracts have been comprehensively explored to promote its clinical application to skin wounds in various forms, such as natural latex, oral medications, blended gels, and in creams [ [14] , [15] , [16] , [17] ]. Among these, latex as a wound enclosure and gels do not permit aeration, and the indirect actions of oral medications impair their functions.…”

“…In vivo models aims to characterize the process and evolution of tissue response after implantation of a given biomaterial, that is, to evaluate the tissue-material interface [75] . Few works reported in the literature performed in vivo tests using NRL and NR, which include dogs [76] , rabbits [6,22,77,78] , rats [50,[79][80][81][82][83] , and humans [73,84,85] . Frade et al applied an NR biomembrane on alternate days to treat chronic necrotic ulcers on the leg and foot of a 64-year-old patient [86] .…”
