Major street events, such as carnivals, offer a unique opportunity for destination experience value co‐creation by participants which relates directly to the destination image. This study uses service‐dominant logic (SDL) to consider the effects of event co‐creation on destination image from the point of view of a participatory process rather than from an outcome perspective. Drawing from a sample of 400 street event participants in the Patras Carnival in Greece, it examines the complexity aspects of co‐creational experience and its influence upon the destination image of the host city. Those aspects are examined by means of fuzzy‐set qualitative comparative analysis. The findings revealed three sufficient configurations (co‐creational involvement and satisfaction; co‐creational event image; experience‐satisfaction nexus) that could affect the destination image of the host destination. The paper contributes to the theoretical body of experiential co‐creational approaches to destination image with clear managerial implications for both event organizers and destination managers.

Restarting Athens Marathon During COVID-19 Uncertainty

The COVID-19 outbreak had a disastrous effect in the event industry. This has also heavily affected sport events with substantial disruptions, postponements, and even cancellations. The study focuses on Athens Marathon participants, and examines their perspectives concerning their willingness to support the restart of the event. The research was held in November 2021, during the restart of Athens Marathon at Kalimarmaro stadium in Athens, Greece. Drawing from a sample of 400 race runners in all three Athens Marathon races (5km; 10km; 42km), the research examines the chaordic systems of participants’ decision-making through the employment of fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis. The findings have generated three sufficient pathways (event loyalty; COVID-19 effect; brand protection) that are able to lead to the participants’ willingness to support the restart of Athens Marathon. The contribution of the study lies in both, theoretical and methodological domains, whilst it also provides several managerial implications.

The pause in Pride parades, particularly highlighted during the pandemic, reminds us of the importance of actively including and celebrating non-heteronormative communities. It emphasizes the need to cultivate understanding and acceptance of diverse sexual orientations. This study navigates through the landscape of Madrid Pride, focusing on understanding how its unforeseen cancellation in 2020 has influenced the LGBTQIA+ communities' sense of space, openness, safety, visibility, acceptance, and equality. This study examines Madrid Pride and explores the effects of its cancellation in 2020 due to the pandemic on the way LGBTQIA+ communities perceive territory, openness, safe space, visibility, acceptance, and equality. The research is centered on examining the connection between Pride parades and the appropriation of spaces that are typically seen as conforming to heterosexual norms. It takes into account the viewpoints of the LGBTQIA+ community (including activists, organizations, and potential attendees) as well as the perspectives of event stakeholders (such as organizations, local community members, and tourism professionals). A Social Representation Theory-based inductive approach was utilized, drawing from queer and feminist perspectives. The cancellation of Pride events in recent times has caused significant disruption to the de- and re-territorialization of space. This has had far-reaching implications in both the political and social realms for the LGBTQIA+ community and its public profile.
