Background Modern treatment options for substance use disorder are diverse. While studies have analyzed the adoption of individual evidence-based practices in treatment centers, little is known about the specific make-up of treatment strategy profiles in treatment centers throughout the United States. The current study used latent class analysis to profile underlying treatment strategies and to evaluate philosophical and structural supports associated with each profile. Methods Utilizing three aggregated and secondary datasets of nationally representative samples of substance use disorder treatment centers (N=775), we employed latent class analysis to determine treatment strategy profiles. Using multinomial logistic regression, we then examined organizational characteristics associated with each profile. Results We found three distinct treatment strategy profiles: Centers that primarily relied on Motivational Interviewing and Motivational Enhancement Therapy, centers that utilized psychosocial and alternative therapies, and centers that employed comprehensive treatments including pharmacotherapy. The multinomial logistic regression revealed that philosophical and structural center characteristics were associated with membership in the comprehensive class. Centers with philosophical orientations conducive to holistic care and pharmacotherapy-acceptance, resource-rich infrastructures, and an entrepreneurial reliance on insured clients were more likely to offer diverse interventions. All associations were significant at the .05 level. Principle Conclusion The findings from this study help us understand the general strategies of treatment centers. From a practical perspective, practitioners and clients should be aware of the variation in treatment center practices where they may offer or receive treatment.

Tobacco and alcohol consumption are the two unhealthy behaviors which often begin during adolescence. They remain one of the main preventable causes of ill-health and socio-economic burden in the society. This study mainly aims at determining the tobacco and alcohol consumption patterns, there interdependence on each other and their interactions with drugs and enumerating diseases and co-morbidities and clinical pharmacist role in providing patient education and counselling regarding their unhealthy behaviors and creating awareness on these habits and related economic burden on patients. A cross-sectional study conducted in a tertiary care hospital among 250 patients for 6 months. Data was collected from patients by WHO tobacco consumption questionnaire, CAGE tool, FAST + AUDIT tool and Kuppuswamy socio-economic scale through interviewing each subject. The majority of the patients (24.8%) were in age group of 41-50 years. Males are more prone to these habits (96.4%). Most common age of initiation of these habits are 21-30 years. Most commonly affected system was accessory organs 75 (30%) and 46% of the patients are suffering from co-morbidities. A total of 121 (48.4%) prescriptions have drug interactions with social habits. 71% of the patients are suffering from occupational or financial stress. 244 (97.6%) patients are experiencing interdependence of these habits. Majority of the patients (95.2%) are of low economic status experiencing economic burden due to these habits. Clinical pharmacist main provision is providing care to individual patients by patient counselling, regarding the repercussions of these social habits and creating awareness to the patients.

La depresión perinatal se produce en el 10 al 15 % de las madres que acaban de dar a luz , 2 y se ha descubierto que llega a ser de hasta el 23 al 52 % en las poblaciones de bajos ingresos.3, 4 La depresión no tratada durante el embarazo y el período posparto está asociada con resultados negativos para las madres, los bebés y las familias. Por ejemplo, la depresión durante el embarazo puede afectar el cuidado personal materno y reducir la probabilidad de que las mujeres reciban una atención prenatal adecuada.5 También está asociada con un riesgo elevado de parto prematuro, bajo peso al nacer, restricción del crecimiento intrauterino, 6 preeclampsia, 7,8 consumo de sustancias ilícitas 9 y, en casos graves, suicidio e infanticidio. La depresión no tratada durante el embarazo también es una de las variables predictivas más claras de la depresión posparto (PPD, por sus siglas en inglés), que es un factor de riesgo conocido de resultados negativos de desarrollo cognitivo y emocional para los niños. 6, 10Iniciativas actuales para abordar la depresión perinatal Con la creciente conciencia sobre la frecuencia y el impacto de los problemas de salud mental perinatal, se han tomado iniciativas de salud pública para promover la detección 11 y proporcionar tratamiento de seguimiento.12 Por ejemplo, algunos estados han iniciado programas que proporcionan consultas psiquiátricas perinatales a los médicos de atención primaria y los especialistas quienes pueden indicárselos a mujeres embarazadas y en el período posparto, y servicios de coordinación de asistencia para promover el acceso a la psicoterapia.13, 14 Recientemente, se aprobó un proyecto de ley federal, Bringing Postpartum Depression Out of the Shadows [Sacar de la sombra a la depresión posparto], que forma parte de la 21st Century Cures Act [Ley de Remedios del Siglo XXI], para apoyar el desarrollo de programas similares en otros estados.
