Evidence of subnucleonic degrees of freedom inJ/ψphotoproduction in ultraperipheral collisions at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

Abstract: We present calculations for the incoherent photoproduction of J/ψ vector mesons in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions (UPC) in terms of hadronic interactions. This study was carried out using the recently developed Monte Carlo model CRISP extended to include UPCs at LHC energies. A careful study of re-scattering and destruction of the J/ψ particles is presented for PbPb collisions at √ sNN = 2.76 TeV. We have also compared our method to AuAu collisions at √ sNN = 200 GeV measured at RHIC.PACS numbers: 24.10… Show more

“…A natural uranium target of 0.164 g and 0.0487 mm thick, neptunium target of 0.742 g and 0.193 mm thick and americium target of 0.177 g and 0.043 mm thick were exposed to an accelerated proton beam of 660 MeV in energy from the LNR Phasotron, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Dubna, Russia. The cross section for the reaction 27 Al(p, 3pn) 24 Na [84] at the same energy was used in monitoring the proton beam. The yields of fission fragments were measured in the off-line mode by the induced-activity method.…”

“…The proton can interact elastically or inelastically producing Delta resonances. A photon can interact according to the channels that go from the quasi-deuteron absorption mechanism at around 50 MeV up to hadronization and vector meson production [72][73][74]. The most relevant nucleonic resonances at intermediate energy are also produced.…”

“…al [14] in the quasi-elastic reaction of ν µ − 12 C. In the present paper, we show recent developments on the inclusion of neutrino-nuclear interaction in the CRISP (Collaboration Rio-Ilhéus-São Paulo) model [17]. CRISP is a nuclear reaction model based on Quantum Dynamics (QD) and Monte Carlo (MC) methods and has being developed for the last two decades [17][18][19][20][21]23]. CRISP provides reliable descriptions of many-body interactions for photons and electrons, for protons and neutrons, and has being applied to study reactions in nuclei from 12 C to 240 Am.…”

“…The incident particles can have energies from 50 MeV up to tens of GeV, and many aspects of nuclear reaction can be investigated, such as specific cross sections, particle multiplicity, and particle spectra, between others. Additionally, the CRISP model has been employed for the investigation of electron scattering [24], meson production in nuclei [21], ultra-peripheral collisions at LHC energies [23], and Λ non-mesonic decay in the nuclear medium [25,26] using the smallest numbers of possible free parameters. CRISP has not been used before to study neutrino-nucleus interaction, then this work is the first study to this issue.…”
