Evodiamine Induces Cell Growth Arrest, Apoptosis and Suppresses Tumorigenesis in Human Urothelial Cell Carcinoma Cells

Abstract: Evodiamine induces growth inhibition, tumorigenesis suppression, cell-cycle arrest, and apoptosis induction in human UCC cells. Therefore, this agent displays a therapeutic potential for treating human UCC cells and is worthy for further investigation.

“…Cells were treated with DMSO or aloperine for various durations. The procedure for determining apoptosis was as previously reported [ 19 , 20 , 21 ]. First, cells treated with DMSO or aloperine were stained with PI/Annexin-V (Sigma-Aldrich) and the apoptotic cells were determined by flow cytometry.…”

“…In addition, evodiamine enhanced TRAIL-induced apoptosis through the regulation of mTOR/S6K1/Mcl-1 pathway [ 144 ]. On the other hand, evodiamine arrested cell cycle progression in G 2 /M phase and increased caspase-dependent apoptosis in bladder tumor cell lines 5637 and HT1197, and the effects of evodiamine was linked with the activations of p38 MAPK and JNK [ 145 ].…”

“…Evodiamine 6 (Figure 4) is a natural quinolone alkaloid widely studied for the treatment of diverse human disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, inflammation and especially cancer (Ogasawara et al, 2002; Yu et al, 2013; Lv et al, 2015; Shi L. et al, 2016; Wang et al, 2016; Wu et al, 2016; Fan et al, 2017; Shi et al, 2017). By targeting topoisomerase I and II, evodiamine has induced apoptosis and cell cycle arrest of a broad spectrum of tumor cell lines (Shyu et al, 2006).…”
