Evolution Characteristics of Wetland Landscape Pattern and Its Impact on Carbon Sequestration in Wuhan from 2000 to 2020

Abstract: The wetland ecosystem is an important organic carbon pool on earth, and rich carbon storage and high carbon density are present in wetland vegetation and soil. However, large areas of wetlands have been drained, the area of wetlands has shrunk, and the degree of fragmentation has intensified due to rapid urbanization in the past 20 years. Enhancing ecological carbon sequestration capacity is a key task of carbon peaking and neutrality, and studying the carbon sequestration function of urban wetland is urgently… Show more

“…With reference to related studies 43 , landscape indices were used to analyze the structural composition and spatial con guration characteristics of the PLES landscape pattern from multiple perspectives, and to further resolve the characteristics of the ecosystem within this region. In this paper, six landscape indices, including number of patches (NP), aggregation index (AI), mean patch area (AREA_MN), contagion index (CONTAG), shannon's diversity index (SHDI), and shannon's evenness index (SHEI), were selected for calculation to analyze the characteristics of PLES pattern and its evolution pattern at the landscape level during 20 years in Changshou District.…”

“…Furthermore, Mu and Shen [19] conducted a dynamic assessment of landscape ecological risk within the TRB, revealing an optimized ecological spatial structure of arid inland rivers, which included the construction of a multicenter landscape ecological security pattern for the watershed. Moreover, Song et al [20] analyzed the evolution characteristics of landscape patterns in Wuhan wetlands using remote sensing image interpretation data spanning from 2000 to 2020 and computing their landscape pattern index. In addition to these studies, research activities related to prediction and simulation have been carried out.…”
