Evolution-Inspired Engineering of Anthracycline Methyltransferases

Abstract: Streptomyces soil bacteria produce hundreds of anthracycline anticancer agents with a relatively conserved set of genes. This diversity depends on the rapid evolution of biosynthetic enzymes to acquire novel functionalities.
