Evolution of ecological patterns of land use changes in European metropolitan areas

Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the evolution of land-use patterns and the Eco-Environmental Quality Index (EQI) in major European metropolitan areas. To this end, nighttime remote sensing images will be used to delineate ten major European metropolitan areas with more than 1 million inhabitants and CLC land cover data will be used to reclassify European land occupation types from 2000 to 2018. Based on MODIS satellite remote sensing imagery, the evolution of EQI was studied for the EQI evaluation systems applicabl… Show more

“…In addition, the continuity of our urban land use is also one of the important factors affecting the quality of the urban ecological environment [4]. Since there is no clear distinction between urban land in band-IGBP, we classify built-up areas according to the criteria defined by the CORINE Land Cover (CLC) for contiguous and discontinuous urban land Figure 3.…”

“…In 2022, the authors tried to find and build a more scientific and reasonable index system to evaluate the ecological environment quality of metropolises. This system can be applied to changes in land use types in different periods and regions [4].…”
