Evolution of VANETS to IoV

Abstract: Advancement in wireless communication technology along with the evolution of low power computational devices, have given rise to the Internet of things paradigm. This paradigm is transforming conventional VANETs into Internet-of- vehicles. This transition has led to a substantial commercial interest; as a result, there has been a significant boost in the field of the Internet of vehicles during the past few years. IoV promises a wide range of applications of commercial interest as well as public entertainment … Show more

“…These systems allow inter-vehicular and vehicularto-environment communications to manage efficiently traffic, with the aim of ensuring road safety. As part of these systems, IoV (internet of vehicles) extends over a broader network involving entities such as humans, objects, and other heterogeneous networks [52]. Because execution time is really crucial in these systems, Chen et al [53] proposed an offloading scheme to minimize a vehicular task's execution time.…”

“…One of the promising directions of ITS development is the application of Internet of vehicle (IoV) technology, which is the integration of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) and satellite IoT technology based on a constellation of geostationary and low-orbit satellites [13]. The deployment of the Starlink low-orbit satellite communication system allows for expanding the scope of the application of the Internet of Vehicles.…”

“…IoV represents the evolving paradigm where vehicles maintain near-constant connectivity to the Internet, enabling the exchange of information with each other and with other services [3]. It is also considered as an extension of Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) with a significant distinction that in VANETs vehicles are not directly connected to a shared network but require additional information and communication infrastructure for connectivity [4].…”
