Show more

“…The adopted methodology involved (a) the use of current and future spatialised bioclimatic data, provided by the WorldClim database (Hijmans, Cameron, Parra, Jones, & Jarvis, ) and the AFRICLIM database (Platts, Omeny, & Marchant, ); (b) data from digital elevation models downloaded from the DIVA‐GIS database http://www.diva-gis.org/; and (c) Aleppo pine distribution points selected from the result of the Landsat satellite images classification of the Aurès region (Garah et al, ).…”

“…Changes in land use are among the causes of biodiversity loss. Thus, like all forests in the Aurès region, the spatiotemporal evolution in the eastern Aurès of the Aleppo pine ( Pinus halepensis ) shows a regressive trend (Garah, Chafai, & Bentouati, ). This evolution could be considerably precipitated and amplified by the probable climatic changes.…”

“…It should be noted that the chosen methodology has already been adopted in the Aures region (Benmessaoud et al, 2009;Beghami et al, 2013;Garah et al, 2016), and for the Belezma region, it is the first time that this method was adopted in this way with 13 classes and taking into consideration all the socioeconomic environments.…”

“…To obtain topography data, Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) Digital Elevation Model (DEM) (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory – JPL, 2015) were used to extract elevation, slope and aspect values of fire pixels. The elevation data were subdivided into three classes: 0–100 m (low), 100–300 m (moderate) and more than 300 m (high) (Stolle et al, 2003), while the slope and aspect derived from elevation data, were classified according to the scale used by (Garah et al, 2016). Besides, soil data from the Soil Atlas of Africa (Jones et al, 2013) were used to assess the influence of soil type on wildfire disturbance.…”
