Evolutionary and interactive sketching tool for innovative car shape design

Abstract: -So as to create innovative car silhouettes, we propose in this paper a model based on an Interactive Genetic Algorithm using an encoding of a design solution by a Fourier analysis approach. This model permits the designer to browse through generations of car profiles from an initial population of existing silhouettes. By qualitatively assessing each individual, the designer converges towards solutions complying with his/her requirements and preferences, possibly creating novelty and generating surprise. We de… Show more

“…(Mok et al, 2013) developed a design support system for sketch design under an IGA model. (Yannou, Cluzel, & Dihlmann, 2013) proposed a model based on IGA by a Fourier analysis approach for car profile design. At the same time, some novel concepts or IGA approaches were also proposed, such as the IGA approach proposed by (Gong, Yao, & Yuan, 2009), in which individual fitness was calculated according to customers sensitiveness instead of being directly assigned by customers.…”

“…e IGA is an evolutionary optimization algorithm based on human-computer interaction, which realizes the intervention and guidance of the evolutionary process to solve a class of implicit performance index optimization problems that cannot be solved by traditional GA. At present, IGA has achieved great success in image retrieval [11], clothing design [12], music creation [13], and product modeling design [14]. However, the traditional IGA also has some shortcomings.…”
