Evolutionary optimization of reinforced concrete beams, taking into account design reliability, safety and risks during the emergency loss of supports

Abstract: An algorithm has been developed to optimize the reinforced concrete beams in removing the supports based on an adapted genetic algorithm and RBDO approach. Multiple cross-sectional dimensions of elements, concrete class, class and diameter of the reinforcements vary. Avoiding significant changes in the geometry of the structure after emergency actions is considered as the main active constraints. It is believed that this constraints provides the required structural resistibility in an emergency situation. The … Show more

“…For design case number 1, the deflection in the middle of the beam span is equal: The analysis of the table shows that the choice of approach to calculating the stiffness of reinforced concrete beams can significantly affect both the safety of the design solution and its performance. The corrosion phenomenon requires further, first of all, experimental study for effective use both in numerical modeling of failures due to force actions [12][13][14], mechanically damaged systems [15][16], and in searching for safe and effective solutions based on optimization. For example, it is reasonable to develop a corrosion accounting mechanism in schemes based on genetic search algorithms [17][18][19], as well as in classical probabilistic methods based on reliability theory [20].…”
