Abstract: Centuries of clonal propagation in cassava (Manihot esculenta) have reduced sexual recombination, leading to the accumulation of deleterious mutations. This has resulted in both inbreeding depression affecting yield and a significant decrease in reproductive performance, creating hurdles for contemporary breeding programs.
