Exact Outage Probability Analysis of the Mixed RF/FSO System With Variable-Gain Relays

Abstract: This paper presents a unified analysis of the mixed radio-frequency (RF)/freespace optics (FSO) relaying system, with multiple variable-gain amplify-and-forward relays. The partial relay selection (PRS) is employed to select the active relay for further retransmission. Due to fast fading statistics of the first RF hop, it is assumed that the channel state information of the RF link is outdated, which is used for both the relay gain adjustment and the PRS procedure. The RF hops are subject to the Rayleigh fadin… Show more

“…The exact SOP in (22) does not provide much insight into the secure outage performance of the proposed model. Hence, we also derive the asymptotic expression of SOP given in (23). Herein, the Meijer's G term in S 2 is converted into asymptotic term in (23) Similar to (15), the impact of all system parameters on the secure outage behaviour are demonstrated via (22) and (23).…”

“…The idea of the PRS in a dual-hop RF-FSO relay system with outdated CSI was proposed in [28]. In [28], [29], the outage performance of RF-FSO relaying system with consideration of Rayliegh/(G 2 ) fading was derived and the BEP and EC were achieved in [30] while [31] derived OP assuming Malaga distribution for the FSO links. The authors in [32] generalized it with hardware impairment consideration in transmitters and receivers for fixed gain AF and decodeand-forward (DF) relaying methods, while they considered Malaga distribution for the FSO links.…”

“…Based on (30) and by substituting (35), (32) and (1) (for X = I ) into (31) and applying integral identity [40,Eq. (2.24.3.1)] we get (36), as shown at the top of the next page.…”
