Examining the determinants of renewable energy deployment: Does the choice of indicator matter?

Abstract: Comprehending the determinants of renewable energy (RE) deployment has preoccupied the energy literature as well as policymakers internationally due to countries' overall shift away from fossil fuels in the energy mix.As stated in the literature, empirical studies that analyze the determinants of RE deployment use a number of different indicators for RE. The effect of an ambiguous choice of the proxy might produce various outcomes and thus create inconsistencies in the policy recommendations. This study aims a… Show more

“…Likewise, Hu et al (2018) selected 25 developing economies and used FMOLS and DOLS to indicate that effective implementation of RE leads to lower carbon emissions over the long run. In support of these outcomes, (Dogan et al, 2010) selected SSA countries to explore the association between environmental pollution and RE during the time scale of 1980-2011. They found that higher fossil fuel consumption contributes to environmental pollution, whereas RE hurts environmental degradation.…”

“…Bondia et al (2016) study in a multivariate framework finds that in the long run, oil prices have no effect on the renewable energy consumption but influences it in the short run. Dogan et al (2021) finds that oil price has weak relation with renewable energy consumption than the renewable energy production.…”

“…In particular, developing countries are facing greater economic and environmental pressures. For a long time, several emerging economies have grown faster than developed countries, but the growth process requires a lot of resources, which may cause serious environmental damage (Ren et al 2021 ; Dogan et al 2021 ). At the same time, the problem of inequality is constantly increasing, which will bring great social risks.…”
