The last two decades have seen a conspicuous rise in the importance of leadership styles. Servant Leadership (SL) is believed to be a pioneering style of leadership that aims to serve others first. Based on the Social Learning Theory and Social Exchange Theory, this study investigates whether SL promotes Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among employees. In this regard, it also examines what role the employees’ Emotional Intelligence (EI) plays between the two variables. A sample of 422 responses was obtained from the managerial and non-managerial staff service and manufacturing industries using a non-probability sampling technique. The data that was collected was analyzed using the PLS-SEM technique. The results indicated a strong positive relationship between SL and OCB. Moreover, the employees’ EI was also found to mediate the relationship between the two variables partially. The analysis showed that leaders who can serve their followers’ needs and expectations to the best of their abilities could promote and strengthen EI among their employees, which eventually boosted their followers’ behavior’s emotional and motivational aspects. This study suggests that managers adopt an SL style that fosters empathy and trust with their employees. Meeting their employees’ expectations and requirements may boost their EI, which helps them attract positive energy and create an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration.

The Moderating Role of Attachment in the Associations Between Group Variables and OCB

The current study expands previous knowledge by investigating the moderating role of attachment styles in the associations between perceived group cohesion, perceived collective efficacy, and changes in the individual report of organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Data were collected from 180 employees, who took part in a 9-week organizational training course. Upon start of training, participants completed questionnaires assessing their attachment orientations and their individual-level OCB. Upon conclusion, participants completed questionnaires assessing their perceived group cohesion, perceived group efficacy, and OCB. Using hierarchical linear modeling, both group cohesion and efficacy explained the changes in the individual OCB. In addition, attachment anxiety moderated the associations between group efficacy, group cohesion and the changes in OCB. The results emphasize the joint effects of group-and individual-level variables in predicting OCB in a longitudinal design. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

This study is grounded in the recognition that numerous school principals seek assistance in optimizing the potential of their human resources within their educational institutions. As a consequence, the attainment of desired objectives becomes a formidable endeavor. The primary objective of this investigation is to identify and elucidate the methodologies employed by a junior high school principal in the Probolinggo district to enhance organizational citizenship behavior. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the researcher conducted interviews, observations, and documentation to acquire credible and reliable data. The analysis of data adheres to the analytical framework proposed by Milles and Hubberman, encompassing data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings of this inquiry illuminate five pivotal focal points within the principal's strategic approach to bolster organizational citizenship behavior through their leadership role: firstly, strategic planning; secondly, task allocation and organization; thirdly, motivation; fourthly, oversight and control; and fifthly, evaluation. This study underscores the implications of organizational citizenship behavior in facilitating the effective attainment of organizational objectives.
