Examining transition metal hydrosulfides: The pure rotational spectrum of ZnSH (X̃2A′)

Abstract: The pure rotational spectrum of the ZnSH (X̃A') radical has been measured using millimeter-wave direct absorption and Fourier transform microwave (FTMW) methods across the frequency range 18-468 GHz. This work is the first gas-phase detection of ZnSH by any spectroscopic technique. Spectra of the ZnSH,ZnSH, and ZnSD isotopologues were also recorded. In the mm-wave study, ZnSH was synthesized in a DC discharge by the reaction of zinc vapor, generated by a Broida-type oven, with HS; for FTMW measurements, the ra… Show more

“…Typical approaches to gas-phase synthesis involve Nd:YAG laser ablation of a solid metal target, followed by the introduction of a gas or liquid-phase precursor to produce the desired target species. For instance, thiol compounds with alkali, [177][178][179] alkaline earth, [180][181][182][183] (post-)transition metal centers 184,185 -including aluminum 186 -(MSH) are routinely produced in the gas phase via evaporation or ablation of solid metals in the presence of H 2 S gas. Synthesis of larger polyatomics could potentially involve using liquid or gas-phase methanethiol, (HSCH 3 ), ethanethiol (HSC 2 H 5 ), pentadienyl (C 5 H 5 ), or benzene (C 6 H 6 ) precursors, in a similar manner to the production of oxygen-containing polyatomics with capillaryintroduced alcohol reactants (i.e.…”

“…Typical approaches to gas-phase synthesis involve Nd:YAG laser ablation of a solid metal target, followed by the introduction of a gas-phase precursor via a heated capillary to produce the desired target species. For instance, thiol compounds with alkali [168][169][170], alkaline earth [171][172][173][174], (post-)transition metal centers [175,176] -including aluminum [177] -(MSH) are routinely produced in the gas phase via evaporation or ablation of solid metals in the presence of H 2 S gas. This method should be readily extendable to syntheses of MSH molecules with p-block metals.…”
