Excess Enthalpies of Mixing, Effect of Temperature and Composition on the Density, and Viscosity and Thermodynamic Properties of Binary Systems of {Ammonium-Based Ionic Liquid + Alkanediol}

Abstract: In the present work the excess enthalpies of butyltrimethylammonium bis(trifluoromethyl-sulfonyl)imide, [N1114][NTf2], with 1,2-propanediol, or 1,2-butanediol, or 2,3-butanediol have been measured at T = 298.15 K. Additionally, the density, ρ, and dynamic viscosity, η, for binary solutions containing ionic liquids (ILs) and alkanedioles, {butyltrimethylammonium bis(trifluoromethyl-sulfonyl)imide, [N1114][NTf2], + 1,2-propanediol, 1,2-butanediol, 2,3-butanediol} and {(2-hydroxyethyl)trimethylammonium bis(triflu… Show more

“…The volumetric and viscometric properties as well as excess enthalpy of mixing for ammonium-based ionic liquid + alkanediol systems were studied by Domanska and co-workers. 15 The results indicated that the densities and viscosities increase with an increase of IL mole fraction and decrease of temperature. Moreover, they obtained the positive values of excess molar volume and excess enthalpy with the negative viscosity deviations.…”

“…With regard to physicochemical properties of ILs and (IL + cosolvent) binary mixtures a common thread runs through many recent reports. From measurements of density [34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42], viscosity [6,40,41,43], conductivity [37,41,44,45], sound velocity [36], refractive index and enthalpy [46,47], excess properties are often computed as a means by which the nature of molecular interactions in mixtures can be interpreted. For example, Anouti and co-workers used volumetric, conductivity, and transport properties to characterize the (pyrrolidinium nitrate + propylene carbonate) binary mixture and they reported several thermodynamic properties for these mixtures [41].…”
