Exclusive ϱ0 production in deep inelastic electron-proton scattering at HERA

Abstract: The exclusive production of ρ 0 mesons in deep inelastic electron-proton scattering has been studied using the ZEUS detector. Cross sections have been measured in the range 7 < Q 2 < 25 GeV 2 for γ * p centre of mass (c.m.) energies from 40 to 130 GeV. The γ * p → ρ 0 p cross section exhibits a Q −(4.2±0.8 +1.4 −0.5 ) dependence and both longitudinally and transversely polarised ρ 0 's are observed. The γ * p → ρ 0 p cross section rises strongly with increasing c.m. energy, when compared with NMC data at lower… Show more

“…Both calculations include the corrections due to intrinsic transverse momentum dependence as described in the text. The data are from NMC (triangles) [49], E665 (solid circles) [50], ZEUS 93 (open circles) [51] and ZEUS 95 (open squares) [52].…”

“…In the last step we made use of the diffractive properties of the vector meson cross section at GeV energies. For the slope factor of the diffractive ρ 0 production, we take β γρ = 6 (GeV/c) −2 [38,[42][43][44] and leave dσ d|t| 0 unspecified as it cancels in the nuclear transparency ratio T = σ A /Aσ N . Combining Eqs.…”

“…The kinematic variables were reconstructed using the socalled 'constrained' method [46], which uses the momenta of the decay particles measured in the CTD and the reconstructed polar and azimuthal angles of the scattered electron. The analysis was restricted to the kinematic region 2 < Q 2 < 80 GeV 2 , 32 < W < 180 GeV, |t| ≤ 0.6 GeV 2 and 0.4 < M ππ < 2.5 GeV.…”
