SUMMARY
One hundred and twentyeight bulk milk samples from 114 farms producing certified milk, 78 bulk raw and 50 pasteurized milk samples from 27 pasteurizing plants, 73 samples of milk from individual aborting animals and 51 individual samples of certified milk were examined for the presence of Brucella spp. Of the samples in these groups 18 (15.8%), 8 (10.3%), 28 (50.0%) and 5 (9.8%) respectively, contained Br. abortus. Fortyeight cultures of brucella were typed. Four cultures behaved like Br. melitensis and the remaining 44 resembled Br. abortus. Of the Br. abortus, 41 belonged to type 1 and the remaining 3 to type 2.
